-
-
- The Capture Tool (invoked from the command line as _c_a_p_t_u_r_e)
- is a graphical tool that allows you to record audio files,
- movie files or still images from the camera or other video
- source, microphone and workstation screen.
-
- Currently, the still image capture and movie capture modes
- of the Capture tool work on either an Indy workstation or
- Indigo2 workstation with any SGI video option board.
-
- See the man page _c_a_p_t_u_r_e(1) or the Capture Tool's on-line
- help for more information.

-
-
- This section lists changes and additions to the Capture tool
- since the IRIX 5.3 release.
-
- +o Capture now allows you to record movie files using the
- QuickTime file format. It also records using the
- QuickTime format, with Video compression, by default.
- To choose SGI or QuickTime file format, open the Movie
- Settings Panel in the Capture tool.
-
- +o Capture now allows you to choose mono or stereo
- soundtracks when recording movie files. Capture
- records a mono soundtrack by default. To choose a mono
- or stereo soundtrack, open the Movie Settings Panel in
- the Capture tool.
-
- +o Capture now has two new command line options:
-
- -movieFormat allows you to choose the file format you'd
- like to use for output, either SGI or QuickTime. See
- the capture(1) manual page for more details.
-
- -execString allows you to provide a command string
- which Capture executes every time it writes a file to
- disk. This is useful when you invoke Capture from
- another application, because you can have Capture run a
- program which notifies your application that Capture
- has written a file to disk. See the capture(1) manual
- page for more details.

-
-
- This section lists bug fixes to the Capture tool since the
- IRIX 5.3 release.
-
- +o Capture now works properly when used with D1 video
- input through the Galileo, Indy Video, or Indigo2 Video
- options.
-
- +o Capture would not always work reliably when using the
- Cosmo Compress option. Sometimes it would abort
- recording right after the user pressed the "Record"
- button. This bug has been fixed. Additionally, other
- changes have been made to improve reliability when
- using the Cosmo Compress option.
-
- +o Capture would put out an erroneous error dialog if the
- user specified -fixedMode on the command line, but no
- .capturesettings file was present in the user's home
- directory. This bug has been fixed

-
-
- This section lists known problems in the Capture Tool.
-
- +o "Lower" quality video recording is not supported on
- Indy systems using VINO (IndyCam) video with XZ
- graphics. This option automatically defaults to
- "Higher" and is made inactive when Capture runs on such
- systems.
-
- +o When recording movies using the Cosmo Compress option,
- if you move the Capture window to another location
- onscreen, the video display will not update correctly.
- This is normal. The video display will update once you
- end recording.
-
- +o When in audio mode, it is possible to get the audio
- window in a mode where it can not be resized. To fix
- this, switch to video mode and back to audio.
-
- +o The default cropping in video is supposed to include
- the entire image, but sometimes it can be one pixel
- off. This occurs when using the Settings panel to
- switch from "Square Crop" to "No Crop". To fix this
- problem, simply choose "No Crop" again from the Crop
- area menu.
-

-
-
-
- +o Sometimes, no sound will be recorded, and no waveform
- will appear in the audio mode. To fix, bring up the
- Audio Control Panel (invoked from the command line as
- _a_u_d_i_o_p_a_n_e_l), and click on and off the Monitor button.
- You should also make sure you have the input source set
- correctly (to use the microphone, select Mic from the
- Input menu).
-
- +o Since the system has limited video resources, it is
- best to avoid running more than one application that
- uses video. In particular, you shouldn't run Live
- Video Input (_v_i_d_e_o_i_n from the command line) at the same
- time as running _c_a_p_t_u_r_e. Nor should you attempt to run
- two instances of capture.
-
- +o It can take up to a second or two for video to start or
- stop recording after you press the Record button.
-
- +o When the video input timing switches between PAL and
- NTSC, Capture will not always display the correct crop
- area. It might specify that "No Crop" is selected,
- however the red crop outline will not be full screen.
- To workaround, reset the crop to "No Crop".
-
- +o It is possible to create movies using Capture, that are
- not possible to play back. For example, a full sized,
- uncompressed movie, with a high frame rate might be
- impossible to play because of disk IO or CPU
- limitations. Try to limit the size and image quality to
- match the capabilities of the machine on which you want
- to play the movie.
